Title: Information Technology Assistant
Period of Assignment: as soon as possible – 1 year with the possibility of extension
Location: Ankara
A. Main Activities
The IT Assistant is responsible for
- identifying relevant problems and issues and assisting in formulating implementation-oriented solutions
- dealing with the IT helpdesk related issues requested by clients on daily basis
- regularly updating computer software and programs
- supporting all standard GIZ software
- maintaining documentation regarding the accomplished tasks
- filing and maintaining necessary document, receipt, and reports of the accomplished tasks
- complying with GIZ standards and the applicable international standards (e.g. ISO27001)
- coordinating his/her work with the head of IT unit
The IT Assistant performs the following tasks:
Main Tasks
1. Hardware
The IT Assistant
- configures and installs newly delivered equipment, this includes:
- installing the equipment in the location required by a user
- connecting the equipment
- checking its correct function
- providing users with brief operating instructions
- possibly the decommissioning of old equipment
- maintains the systems, network, and hardware documentation
- maintains PCs, laptops, printers, digital cameras, scanners, and other hardware devices
- takes on and carrying out repairs, independently undertaking repairs that can be done locally
2. Software
The IT Assistant
- helps to maintain all GIZ standard software
- helps to update and purchase new software
- tests new or enhanced software programs
3. Internet, Local Network
The IT Assistant
- Support in applying necessary changes on the various network devices (switches, access points, firewalls, telephone system) in accordance with the approved procedures and configuration items
4. Operational support
The IT Assistant
- consults with suppliers/vendors to ensure that the network, telephone system, and computer hardware function properly
recommissioning computers and other retired devices in accordance with the applicable standards
5. General tasks
The IT Assistant
- always complies with GIZ standards
- maintains a list of all hardware and software systems, and updates this to reflect changes
- performs introduction and training to new staff on basic operational information
- escalates problems to the ITSC help desk
- provides support for other project activities and tasks or carrying these out
- assists in purchasing, improving, maintaining, and testing hardware and networks (notebooks, printers, digital cameras, scanners, servers, and computers) in accordance with current GIZ standards and staff needs
- incorporates market research on relevant IT technologies
- takes part in training courses as required and in accordance with the assignment
- performs other duties and tasks at the request of management

B. Required qualifications, competencies, and experience
Education / Qualifications
- University degree in Informatics or a related field.
- Business proficiency in both Turkish and English is required.
Professional Experience
- At least 1 year of experience in computer systems, network management, and software installation.
- Basic understanding of computers, the internet, local area networks, and networking concepts.
Other Knowledge and Additional Competencies
- Familiarity with essential GIZ applications (such as SAP, DMS etc.) is a plus.
- Willingness to enhance skills as needed for the tasks at hand, with corresponding measures agreed upon with management.
- Proven ability to work effectively under stress and time constraints.
- Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
